Where Does The Money Go?

100% of the funds raised in each of the T-Bone’s five locations will go directly to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. locations in the Okanagan community. These include centres that help those concerned with or facing dementia build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to maintain quality of life. The Society plays a critical role by offering information, education opportunities, support groups and the ability to speak directly with a knowledgeable team member.

What Is Alzheimer’s Disease?

Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, is a disease of the brain characterized by deterioration of thinking ability and of memory, caused by the progressive degeneration of brain cells. The disease also affects mood and emotions, behavior and one’s ability to perform activities of daily living. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s disease nor can its progression be reversed.

Numbers Are Rising

The number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia is rising. In 2020/21 in the Okanagan, approximately 11,900 people were living with dementia & 2,450 were newly-diagnosed. Of the three Okanagan communities served by T-Bones, Penticton has the highest prevalence of people living with dementia, followed by Vernon and then the Central Okanagan. These numbers are predicted to grow as the size and proportion of the population aged 65 and older continue to increase. Also affected by this disease, are hundreds of thousands of spouses and other family members, many of who are caregivers.

Why Should I Donate?

Your donation will help ensure the services and programs offered by the Alzheimer Society of B.C. in the Okanagan fit the growing need of the communities they serve. Fundraisers and donations are integral to funding support and education sessions for people affected by dementia, as well as enabling research into
the causes of and the cure for the disease.
